In its original avatar, more than 150 years ago, The Grange was a house of music owned by Misquith & Co. Today, we’re orchestrating an Indian symphony of the culinary kind. With the pop and crackle of mustard seeds, the sweet whistling
of steam, the percussion of spoons striking pans, and the soft sizzle of the grill, we are striking a chord through food.
Ooty intersects many worlds and eras, giving it a multi-faceted character, crowning a dense swathe of the Nilgiris, one of the richest biodiversity hotspots in the world. To help you understand ‘The Queen of Hill Stations’ better, we offer guided tours to suit different interests and moods.
If you were riding past The Grange on a summery morning in 1860, chances are, you would have heard Wallace Misquith, the master of the house, leading the cchoir in song, preparing for a play that would be staged in the Assembly Rooms, or adeptly fixing the church organ he had recently salvaged from the neighbourhood cathedral. For The Grange, or Glanton Hall as it was called, was first a music hall run by Mr. Misquith, who inherited a deep love for music from his father. The younger Misquith owned a musical instrument shop and music salon in Madras, where the old Elphinstone theatre once stood.
Each of the six rooms centred around the rose garden has an individual colour scheme, borne out by the kaleidoscopic Athangudi tiles, carved glass lamps and paintings whose subjects vary from Kalamkari to Kathakali.

Snugly situated by the corner, these rooms boast a bay window that invites you to lose yourself in the pages of a book, as the world outside quietly passes by.

Lovely place right in the heart of the city. Most of the places are at a walkable distance from here. Nice clean rooms, comfy beds, super clean toilets and 24/7 hot water. The restaurant is good as well.

This beautiful hotel sits just east of the mountain. It’s location makes its beach nicely secluded, even though it is not far from the city. Our room is perfect, quiet and comfortable, and is directly above the dolphin pool. Service here is impeccable.
